An Alternative Approach to Hair Loss

An Alternative Approach to Hair Loss

At Hair Transplant Specialists, we understand that surgical interventions aren’t the only solutions for hair restoration. We offer a range of non-surgical treatments designed to preserve existing hair and promote new growth. Our goal is to provide effective, minimally invasive options tailored to your individual needs.

Medical Therapies for Hair Preservation

Maintaining your current hair and preventing further loss is achievable through several FDA-approved methods. Early intervention is crucial, as it’s easier to retain existing hair than to restore it after follicles have become inactive.

Finasteride (Propecia®)

Finasteride is an oral medication taken daily that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss. By reducing DHT levels, Finasteride can slow hair thinning and, in some cases, stimulate regrowth. Clinical studies have shown that over 85% of men experienced stabilization or improvement in hair density after five years of treatment.

Potential Side Effects:

While Finasteride is generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or reduced semen volume. These effects are reported in less than 4.5% of users and are typically reversible upon discontinuation. Recent discussions have raised concerns about “Post-Finasteride Syndrome” (PFS), characterized by persistent side effects after stopping the medication. The existence of PFS is currently debated in the medical community, and if it does occur, it is believed to be extremely rare.

Minoxidil (Rogaine®)

Minoxidil is a topical solution applied directly to the scalp that helps stimulate hair follicles and promote regrowth. It’s available over-the-counter and is suitable for both men and women. Consistency is key, as results typically become noticeable after three to six months of regular use.

Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

LLLT involves the use of low-intensity lasers to stimulate hair follicles and encourage growth. This non-invasive treatment can be administered in a clinical setting or at home using devices like laser combs, headbands, or helmets. LLLT is most effective for individuals experiencing early stages of hair thinning and is not recommended for those with severe hair loss.
